The first Warcraft film a prequel to the first game of the series, also named World of Warcraft. The film was released on June 10, 2016 in North America and on June 11, 2016 worldwide. The film is directed by Duncan Jones and written by Charles Leavitt, based on a story idea from Chris Metzen. The film's cast includes Dominic Cooper as King Llane Wrynn, Ben Foster as Anduin Lothar, Travis Fimmel as Orgrim Doomhammer and Toby Kebbell as Durotan. The film will center on the events leading up to the first game in "Warcraft" series, "". The film was expected to gross $38–45 million from 3,406 theaters in its opening weekend, with the studio predicting a lower take of $30 million. Warcraft ended up grossing $24.3 million on its first day (including $3.1 million from Thursday previews) and $46.8 million over the weekend, which was significantly lower than initial projections. A big reason for this was that the film was released on the same weekend as one of the most popular movies of 2016 so far, "" (which made over 200% more than Warcraft). For the three-day opening weekend, Warcraft was the 12th highest grossing film and one of the ten top grossing non-sequel/franchise films. The film received mixed to positive reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a "Certified Fresh" score of 54% based on 209 reviews with an average rating of 5.4/10. The site's consensus states: "Though "Warcraft" can be fun at times, it's cut short by a lack of depth and clear storytelling intent." Metacritic gave the film a score of 53 out of 100 based on 33 reviews . On CinemaScore, audiences gave the film a "B-" grade. The film was released on DVD and Blu-ray on November 23, 2017. Warcraft: The Board Game (Europa Edition) is a strategy board game based on the World of Warcraft universe, set in the best known locations from the Warcraft franchise, which was released in 2016 by Fantasy Flight Games. It came with 32 large, full-color units for each faction, 42 additional units from other sources and dozens of cards to enhance gameplay.
